‘Deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate’ include the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic of people whose death certificate mentioned COVID-19 as one of the causes.
The data for these figures are published weekly by the Office for National Statistics. There is a lag in reporting of at least 11 days because for this data because it is based on death registrations.
On the other hand, ‘deaths within 28 days of a positive test’ includes the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic of people who had had a positive test result for COVID-19 and died within 28 days of the first positive test
Data from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not directly comparable as the methodologies and inclusion criteria vary.
