A woman with an ‘extraordinarily poor’ record for complying with court orders turned up late to her sentencing hearing.

Claire Reid, 28, was remanded in custody by Judge Nigel Daly after she turned up to Oxford Crown Court more than two-and-a-half hours late.

She should have been living at a hostel in Southampton. But on Tuesday, Judge Daly was told that she had been living in Banbury since the end of August as her prescription for a class A drug substitute had been stopped without warning by rehabilitation workers on the south coast.

Remanding her into custody, he said he appreciated that Reid had some difficulties getting to court but ‘getting up late doesn’t quite explain it’. He added: “You have an extremely poor record of complying with orders of the court.”

Earlier, he issued a warrant for Reid’s arrest. said it seemed ‘highly unlikely’ that she’d gone from Southampton, where she is meant to be living, to Banbury on Tuesday morning so she could then travel down to Oxford using the travel warrant.

He told Reid’s barrister, Dana Bilan: “It’s not looking good at the moment with regard to her living and sleeping in Southampton. But who knows? She can’t tell us because she’s not here.”

Reid, of Whitelaw Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty at the magistrates’ court in August to causing actual bodily harm and possession of a knife in Blackbird Leys Road, Oxford, on May 11.

Her bail conditions ban her from entering Oxford city or Blackbird Leys, unless to attend solicitors’ or probation appointments or to attend court. She must sleep at a bail hostel in Southampton every night.

Reid will be sentenced on Wednesday.
