A shoplifter has been banned from every supermarket in Faringdon after he was jailed for his latest spree.

Christopher Mertha’s criminal behaviour order bans him from going to Tesco, McColls, Waitrose, Aldi and Boots in the west Oxfordshire town. The order will last for two years.

It was imposed by Oxford magistrates after the 30-year-old, of Acacia Close, Carterton, admitted a shoplifting spree. He repeatedly stole expensive fragrances from Boots.

Mertha, who is also known by the alias Chris Carrol, admitted breaching an earlier suspended sentence imposed for possession of a knife.

He was jailed for 10 weeks and ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.
