A MAN punched a woman in the back after trying to rob her of her handbag.

The incident happened yesterday at about 7.10pm in an alleyway between Farm Road and Lockstile Way in Goring in South Oxfordshire.

A 48-year-old woman was walking down the alleyway when she realised someone was behind her.

The man grabbed her handbag and tried to pull it from her. He did not manage to get the handbag, but punched the woman in the back and ran off.

The offender is described as a white man, 5ft 8in to 6ft tall with dark eyes. He was wearing a black hooded jumper and black snood.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Richard Whitcombe based at Abingdon police station, said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim in this case.

“We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anything or has information about this incident.
