MOTORISTS are being urged not to tailgate after a high volume of crashes on Oxfordshire's roads in recent weeks.

The comments came from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Services after multiple services were called to a crash on the A40, near Barnard Gate, on Wednesday.

A driver was left trapped in his vehicle and had to be removed using specialist hydraulic equipment. He was left with suspected neck and back injuries.

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The service has attended a high volume of collisions on Oxfordshire’s roads over the past couple of weeks and we would like to remind drivers of the need to remain observant and maintain safe distances from the vehicles in front.”

At 4:39pm on Wednesday, crews from Witney Fire Station, Rewley Road Fire Station and Kidlington Fire Station were called to assisted South Central Ambulance Service and Thames Valley Police.

Photographs taken at the scene show the extent of the multi-agency approach with firefighters and police officers working together to make the scene safe.

It is the latest crash to happen on the A40. Last month, two cars and a lorry were involved in a collision at Barnard Gate.
