MORNING commuters were left rubbing their eyes in disbelief at the sight of a lobster walking along the pavement in Oxford's Cowley Road today.
The live crustacean had apparently been released onto the East Oxford thoroughfare – or escaped from a restaurant.
Among those who saw it was Telma Borges Simoes while making her way to work at a hairdressing salon.
She said she almost stood on the lobster and had to pull back to avoid hurting it.
Telma said she asked a man sitting at a nearby café if he knew how the lobster had ended up there, but he was equally confused. "He could not believe his own eyes," she said.
She added: “I’ve seen all types of people and things on Cowley Road, but a lobster as big as my hand walking towards the Bullingdon Road was very unusual."
