A road rage incident ended when a woman rained down punches in front of her victim’s daughter.

Danny Young, 41, who was transitioning to a woman when the attack took place on June 25, 2019, was said to have been caused ‘considerable distress’ when her shirt was torn during the argument and her chest exposed.

Sentencing her to 12 months’ imprisonment suspended for two years, Judge Nigel Daly said: “In normal circumstances, I may well have concluded when dealing with this sort of road rage incident the appropriate punishment can only be dealt with by immediate custody.”

However, he said he was suspending the sentence as Young was the full-time carer for her disabled son and was responsible for looking after her daughter.

He noted the defendant had a number of mental health difficulties including severe anxiety.

“During the course of the incident, your shirt was torn. This normally would have little effect. However, in your case it cause you considerable distress and panic because of the exposure of your developing breasts. I note from the psychiatric report that you were having particular concerns about this at the time,” he added.

Young, of Forgeway, Banbury, pleaded guilty on the day of her trial to causing actual bodily harm. The incident happened on Beaumont Road, Banbury.

Mitigating, Michael Goold said an immediate prison sentence would mean two children being taken into care.

A restraining order prevents Young from contacting her victim for three years. She was ordered to complete up to 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
