Firefighters stopped hundreds of hay bales from going up in smoke – after an eagle-eyed member of the public raised the alarm.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Bicester, Buckingham and Towcester were called to the farm in Poundon, around four miles north of Bicester, on Friday night.
“On arrival it looked as if the call from a member of a public may have been a false alarm but we found a deep seated fire in the middle of the stacked bales which if it hadn’t have been spotted would have spread to the hundreds of bales around it,” a spokesman said.
Fire crews put out the flames and a farmer helped move hay bales.
