Two men found dead in a car in Abingdon have been named.

The bodies of Peter Haslam, 49, and Adrian Davies, 43, were discovered in a parked car in a car park on The Vineyard, Abingdon, in the early hours of September 14.

Opening an inquest on both men, senior coroner for Oxfordshire Darren Salter stated that both men had been found unresponsive. They were pronounced dead at 3.18am.

The cause of their deaths remains under investigation.

Mr Haslam was said to have been a fork lift truck driver, who lived in Larkhill Road, Abingdon. Mr Davies was a construction worker, who lived at Thornhill Walk, Abingdon.

A full inquest hearing is due to be held on February 10 next year.

In the wake of the men’s deaths, public health bosses in the county issued a warning about potentially contaminated heroin.

Andy Symons, of addiction charity Turning Point, said: “We have been aware of a number of fatalities which were potentially drug-related and most of it, we think, is linked to a contaminated batch of heroin.”

There had been a problem over the past three months with contaminated heroin, he said. It was believed that the narcotic had been cut with fentanyl or other kinds of opiate drugs, making it stronger.

Mr Symons said: “Some people are not sure how much they are using, in terms of the purity of the heroin, and that is potentially why the deaths are suspected to be drug-related.”
