A town's food festival is set to be cancelled less than a week before it is meant to take place due to a lack of interest.

Bicester is due to have its first food festival next Sunday which is planned to have 60 stalls offering a large range of cuisines.

But despite the town council trying to deliver on this target, it has been unable to generate enough interest.

Just 22 companies expressed interest but only nine of these actually supplied the town council with the appropriate documentation.

The environment committee will decide at a meeting on Monday whether to cancel the festival.

In the meeting agenda pack it states: "With two weeks to go there is no longer sufficient time for staff to secure enough stall holders to make this event successful.

"For it to take place in its current form would potentially harm the council’s reputation with residents."

It also says that other events that have been organised in Bicester may have clashed with the food festival.

It added: "At the time of the schedule being agreed unknowingly the dates were in close proximity to other like-minded events. These like-minded events seem to have drawn greater interest than the town council’s event."
