Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton was one of six people today who received honorary degrees from the University of Oxford at the annual Encaenia ceremony.

The honorands included Secretary Clinton, Jeanette Winterson CBE and Baroness Ruth Lister CBE.

Secretary Clinton received the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law. 

The honorands, along with senior members of the University, walked in procession from the back gate of Exeter College to the Sheldonian Theatre, via Brasenose Lane, Radcliffe Square, Catte Street and the Bodleian Library quadrangle.

Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton was honoured for her five decades in public service as an advocate, attorney, activist, and volunteer, First Lady of the United States, First Lady of Arkansas, the 67th United States Secretary of State, and presidential candidate.

In 2016 she became the first woman to earn a major party’s nomination for president and went on to receive 66 million votes in her campaign for President of the United States. Secretary Clinton is the author of nine best-selling books, and host of the podcast You and Me Both.
