Care home residents unable to visit the pub due to Covid-19 have had the pub brought to them, completely free of charge.

Before the pandemic, residents from Albany Care Home in Headington would take weekly visits to their local pub, the White Horse on London Road.

Due to the risks of Covid-19 the home is not allowed to take residents out for trips, meaning residents have been unable to visit the pub for a meal, a drink and to socialise.

Alice Dingwall, activities coordinator at Albany Care Home, said: “Residents have been asking the last few months about when they can go back to the pub but we are still not allowed to go.

“The staff from the pub really went out of their way to cater for our residents and package the food up for a take away. It was a wonderful experience and completely free of charge!

“We were also fortunate enough to enjoy our meals sat in our garden accompanied with a glass of Pinot. It really was as if we were at the pub!

“We would especially like to thank Pete the Landlord for arranging it all for us.”

The residents enjoyed a main and dessert from the pub which included fish and chips, sausage and mash and chocolate brownie – as well as a few beers and wine.

All of the food should have come to around £60 but was provided to the residents completely free of charge.

Ms Dingwall added: “The residents loved it! We told them what happened and they were so pleased.”

Peter Soulsby-Lee, general manager at the White Horse, said: “We have missed seeing the residents from the Albany as they used to be regulars here. They used to like coming out to our pub for a meal but because of Covid they still aren’t able to visit us.

“The simple solution was to take the pub to them, so that’s what we did! We made 20 meals and delivered them to the home for them to have there.

“I’m delighted they enjoyed it.”
