AN AIR ambulance was sent to the scene of a three-vehicle crash.

The A34 was closed northbound from the A415 Marcham Interchange, Abingdon and traffic was also held southbound, to allow the air ambulance to land.

Crews from the Abingdon and Rewley Road fire stations were called out just before 2.30pm to the accident involving two vans and a car on the A34 northbound, between Abingdon North and Hinksey Hill junctions.

On arrival, crews found one female driver with head injuries still in the car, with crews cutting the driver out of the car, before being transported to hospital.

Abingdon Fire Station’s crew manager said: “This is a timely reminder for all drivers to ensure that they and their passengers are wearing seatbelts.

“In this instance, if the driver hadn’t been, the results could have been much worse.

“It was also extremely frustrating to see several drivers travelling in the opposite direction on their mobile phones, please remember that it is illegal to use a mobile phone whilst driving.”

The road has now reopened, after the accident was cleared.

Motorists were urged to seek other routes.
