A teenage prison inmate who had stabbed his own father in an explosion of anger was found dead in his cell, a coroner heard.

Anthony McNally was serving a four year prison sentence after leaving his father bleeding profusely with part of his stomach hanging out due to the multiple blows.

An inquest review heard how the 18-year-old son was found in his prison cell before emergency services rushed to help him. Despite their best efforts, the young man was declared dead the next day, January 8 this year.

The teenager had been jailed in August last year after a violent outburst - partly captured on mobile phone footage - where he pinned his father against the side of a bed, with a five inch long blade during an attack at the family home in Leach Road, Bicester.

Using a wooden-handled knife, the attack was described as a 'hammering' of blows with McNally 'using all his strength' to injure his father.

The explosion of aggression came after he had made numerous threats towards his family in their home on February 10 last year - including telling his mother he would 'throw acid in her face' and shoot her with an air rifle.

After his arrest, the boy admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and sitting at Oxford Crown Court, Judge Peter Ross stated that McNally had 'lost his temper'. He jailed him for four years.

However, just five months into his lengthy prison sentence, the teenager was found unwell in his prison cell before he was declared dead on January 8 this year.

Sitting at Buckinghamshire coroner's court, senior coroner Crispin Butler explained that the investigation into the young man’s death would be a jury inquest.

He said: "The jury are the fact-finders, they know nothing about Anthony or his death. They come to court, they receive directions and then they deliberate."
