The Cowley Conservative Club, on 19 Between Towns Road, was bought by Cantay Estates Ltd in 2019, with the view to convert the old social club into student housing.

The original planning application, submitted to Oxford City Council in 2019, was seeking permission to build a 220 student room development over three, four, and five-storey blocks.

This application was withdrawn, however, in June 2020 for an unknown reason.

A new application for the site was resubmitted in March of this year.

The latest updates reveal the plans for the site, which include building

three, four and five storey building which would house 189 student rooms.

If plans go ahead, an indoor and outdoor communal space, bin and bicycle storage and a ground floor space for local community use would also be created.

The plans need to be approved to allow cooking to take place on the site.

The building is a Grade II listed building owned by University College, at Oxford University.

The building is listed due to its seventeenth century architecture and the fact the mother of John Ruskin lodged in the building when he was at Christ Church College between 1836-40.

PLANS to connect Oxford Brookes University’s Headington Campus with Clive Booth accommodation site.

The site is located off Cuckoo Lane to the south of the student village, and is characterised by an area of existing woodland, that forms the western edge to the Headington Hill Hall Campus and eastern edge to Headington Hill Park.

The current route is said to be difficult to access and an indirect path to the campus.

The new path will provide a direct route.
