Thames Valley Air Ambulance is encouraging dog owners to give their pooches a dream day out to help and raise vital funds at the same time.

Top of the Pups Goes Walkies is taking place on August 22 in Britwell Salome near Wallingford.

There will be walking routes of 5km and 10km, walkers will have the chance to enjoy a post-stroll picnic in beautiful private gardens on their return.

For Thames Valley Air Ambulance’s hardworking crew, who are currently experiencing a summer spike in call outs combined with working in full PPE during high temperatures, dog walking offers a way to de-stress.

Tracey Alden, Critical Care Paramedic for the charity, knows the importance of looking out for her teammates. As a trained trauma risk management practitioner she helps colleagues chat through some of the intense scenarios they find themselves in. Another important way crew members unwind is by getting active.

Ms Alden said: "In our job, we are called out to the most serious incidents. Coming home after a tough shift when you’re mentally and physically drained, it can be tempting to head straight for the sofa. But getting out on a dog walk does wonders for your wellbeing, with fresh air and the chance to de-stress.

"This new event is a is a great chance to give both your physical and mental health a boost, while helping a lifesaving local charity at the same time. Every ticket sold will help us protect our community – walking the dog really could save a life."
