Judges at Oxford Crown Court handed down dozens of years' worth of jail time last month.

Among those sent down were burglars, dangerous drivers, drug dealers and violent offenders.

Judge Ian Pringle QC, the resident judge at the St Aldates courthouse, also jailed four people involved in helping those who carried out the violent killing of Christopher Lemonius in Blackbird Leys in 2017.

Drunk driver Simon Russell, 39, was doing 109mph in his England coach brother’s Audi RS6 shortly before he smashed into an off-duty ambulance driver’s Corsa.

The Vauxhall driver was left with devastating injuries – with emergency crews forced to perform CPR as they raced him to hospital.

Remorseful Russell was jailed for 32 months by Judge Nigel Daly. Sending him down, Judge Daly said: “Were I dealing with death by dangerous driving I would consider that driving at 109mph in a 30mph limit, during the dark, when you are twice the legal alcohol limit would amount to a flagrant disregard to the rules of the road and, of course, the danger caused to others.”

‘Third strike’ drug dealer Khia Yearwood-May was given almost six years after he was caught with drugs in his car at a St Clements dealing hotspot.

Originally from Luton, he already had two previous convictions for selling heroin and crack cocaine – making him a ‘third strike’ dealer and subject to a mandatory minimum sentence.

The 26-year-old was said to have gone straight and got work as a delivery driver after his last jail sentence, but lost the job with employers Appliances Direct after arguing with his colleagues.

He received the mandatory minimum sentence of 2,045 days – the equivalent of 67 months.

Joseph Gunning and Farouk Abdul, both 21, were part of a shotgun-toting gang that smashed its way into a Blackbird Leys family home last May.

The gang thought they were raiding a drugs den – but they couldn’t have been more wrong.

A masked gunman pointed what appeared to be a sawn-off shotgun at the mum-of-four. The family dog, which the woman claimed was a Pitbull, scared the gang away when it began barking ferociously.

Gunning was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years and his co-defendant received eight years. Both admitted conspiracy to rob.
