A man denies lying about his nationality on an immigration form and harbouring his wife.

Artur Cupi, 38, is said by prosecutors to have put the wrong date of birth and nationality on an application for a travel document, claiming to be Serbian rather than Albanian.

He is also alleged to have fraudulently sponsored his wife to enter the UK then harboured the woman, who it is said was in the country illegally, at his home in Oxford from April 1, 2017, to February 3 this year.

Appearing before Oxford Crown Court, Cupi, of Goose Green Close, Oxford, pleaded not guilty to fraud, possession of an identification document with inappropriate intent, obtaining leave to enter or remain in the UK by deception and assisting unlawful immigration to an EU member state.

He was bailed by Judge Nigel Daly to return to court for a case management hearing on September 10. His trial was provisionally fixed for May 23, 2022.
