A drink driver who crashed two cars in three months and was seen as a “high risk” to road users has been banned from driving for five years.

Michael McDonald, 49, crashed a Volkswage Tiguan in Amersham in November, and was then involved in a second collision while driving a Mercedes in Beaconsfield in January.

Appearing at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on June 16, McDonald pleaded guilty to two charges of drink driving.

The court heard how the first incident took place on the A404 junction with Cherry Lane in Amersham on November 9, 2020.

Following the crash, McDonald gave a blood alcohol reading of 280 milligrams per 100 millimetres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams, making McDonald more than three times over the limit.

The second incident took place less than three months later, on Welders Lane in Beaconsfield on January 19.

Driving a blue Mercedes ML350, McDonald was involved in another crash while drunk behind the wheel.

This time, he gave a blood alcohol reading of 267 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood, putting him more than three times over the legal limit for a second time.

The court heard how McDonald had committed a “previous offence of similar nature” and was considered to be a “high risk” to road users.

Magistrates gave McDonald a 12-week prison sentence suspended for two years and banned him from driving for five years.

He was also ordered to pay £298 costs.
