LIVE music returned to Oxford’s best-loved music venue, with a show by dynamic local singer-songwriter Emma Hunter and friends.

Friday’s show at The Bullingdon was the first at the Cowley Road venue since it fell dark at the start of the first lockdown in March 2020.

The show, which also featured Daniel Ma’ani and Scott Gordon, and Emma’s drummer Tom Bruce, was staged by Oxford promoter Mark ‘Osprey’ O’Brien of city-based It’s All About the Music.

He said: “It is absolutely brilliant to be back in the back of the Bully! We put on the last gig before lockdown and have now restarted things with the first show now that we are slowly returning to normal. And it was an amazing night!”

The small audience had to provide a negative test result or proof of double vaccination.

The gig was also live-streamed to those unable to join in person.

Emma, from Tackley near Kidlington, was playing tunes from her soon-to-be-released EP and her recent single Nightingale.

She and Tom play what they describe as "emotive, 1950s-Flamenco inspired guitar with layered loops and complex, harmonious vocals in an evocative, cinematic soundscape."

She said: "It was great to be back at The Bullingdon with a lovely crowd.

"We were all a bit nervous but it's a well-run venue with a lovely little crowd and everything went well."
