A PAIR of fundraisers who will try to complete every Olympic event during the 17 days of the Tokyo Games have been praised by their MP.

Layla Moran, Lib Dem MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has tabled a Commons motion congratulating local constituents and ‘Spennylympics’ duo Stuart Bates and Charlotte Nichols for their “inspirational” upcoming challenge for charity.

They will complete 49 sports and over 96 events in memory of Mr Bates’s brother Spencer – known as ‘Spenny’ – who died after suffering from motor neurone disease.

The MP wished the duo the best of luck for all the events and said the “whole constituency” was right behind them.

Her motion acknowledged “the life-changing work the Motor Neurone Disease Association does for those with Motor Neurone Disease and Kennedy’s Disease; and urges the Government to further support and invest in research and care related to Motor Neurone Disease and Kennedy’s Disease.”

She said: “I wish our local heroes Stuart and Charlotte the very best of luck in their Spennylympics event taking place over what will be an undoubtedly intense 17 days.

“What they’re doing is inspirational and for an amazing cause - one that I know is very personal to them. The Motor Neurone Disease Association truly does life-changing work for so many people who are suffering from Motor Neurone Disease.

“I know the whole constituency will be lending Stuart and Charlotte their full support and I encourage those who are able to donate to this amazing cause.”
