A cable ‘exploded’ on a Summertown building site showering passers-by with dust.
Firefighters are currently at the scene of what one eyewitness described as the ‘explosion’ at the EasyHotel construction site in Banbury Road.
Police officers are directing traffic past the scene.
One man, who was passing by the site shortly before 5pm, told the Oxford Mail said: “I was just walking along the pavement and there was an ear-splitting bang and we were showered in soil and dust.
“A high voltage electric cable had exploded but no one was doing anything.
“Workmen in hi vis ignored it and one shouted ‘stay away from that’.
“It was pretty terrifying and someone could have been killed.”
