MORE than 600 people were left without power due to a power cut which saw a line pole catch fire.

At 8.23pm last night, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) was notified of a fault and power cut on its network near Yarnton.

The power cut impacted 643 customers, with power restored in batches.

SSEN reported that all impacted customers had power back by 12.21am.

A spokesperson for the energy company said a ‘small fire’ was reported on a wooden overhead line pole, with the fire brigade called to extinguish it.

While follow-up works may be required, no further cuts are anticipated.

The spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to our customers who were affected by this power cut.

“Our engineers restored power as safely and quickly as possible and no further interruptions are expected at this time.”
