A 19-year-old man died in an accident on the M40 last night.

Police believe three cars were involved in the smash on the southbound carriageway between junctions 9 - for Bicester - and 8a - for Oxford, at just after 9pm.

Investigators said the collision involved a silver Peugeot, a green Vauxhall Corsa and a silver Ford Fiesta.

It is then thought a silver Polo travelling in lane three of the motorway struck the stationary Peugeot.

A further car, a blue Peugeot, also became involved and it is thought this car may have hit the 19-year-old man, who had got out of the silver Peugeot.

The victim, who is from Surrey, but has not been named, died from his injuries fatal injuries. No one else was injured.

The southbound carriageway was closed for six hours to allow collision investigators to examine the scene. It re-opened at 3am.

No arrests have been made and witnesses at the scene were interviewed. Police are appealing for any further witnesses to come forward.
