A residents' association is calling on businesses to help fund a guide book for the community.

The Headington Action Group produces the OX3 guide, with listings for entertainment and services on offer in the Marston and Headington areas. This is the second year the group has set out to produce the guide, which it hopes to deliver to up to 25,000 homes.

Mary Hope, who has been working to put the guide together for the group, said that while some businesses had been signed-up, they needed more sponsorship and advertising before the guide could be distributed.

She said: "We are hoping to have the new guide up and running by Spring, and have had some very positive feedback from people who used last year's guide.

"We are hoping to make the guide bigger than last year and as such we require more sponsorship and advertising.

"The guide will be delivered to up to 25,000 homes, so a lot of people will see it. It lasts for one year, so we hope businesses will be interested in getting involved."

Mrs Hope added: "One man, who has lived in Headington for more than 30 years, wrote to tell me that he had found a lot of activities that he had not been aware of before the guide came out - which was nice.

"I have lived in Headington all my life, and I found activities and businesses that I had not been aware of."

Residents have also come out in support of the guide and called on local businesses to help make the 2008 edition a reality.

Vikram Jarvaz, 58, of Valencia Road, said: "I used the 2007 version of the guide and I thought it was fantastic. It made it so easy to find things in the local area and was great for discovering things that go on.

"I hope businesses come out and support this. It's a great thing for the area."
