HUNDREDS more people in Oxfordshire have tested positive for Covid-19 in just 24 hours.

Official Government figures show that as of 4pm on Wednesday, a further 311 new coronavirus cases were registered in the county with a third of the new cases in Oxford.

The rate of infection in Oxfordshire now stands at 5,552 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 7,653.

Oxford – 99

South Oxfordshire – 41

Cherwell – 58

West Oxfordshire – 61

Vale of White Horse – 52

The total number of coronavirus cases since the pandemic started are:

Oxford – 11,515

Oxfordshire – 38,709

Currently, there are six patients with the virus admitted in Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with one patient on ventilation.

The UK has recorded a further 33 Covid-related deaths and 32,548 new cases with 386 patients admitted to hospital, Public Health England confirmed.

Cases identified through a positive lateral flow test – those which can deliver results within half an hour – will no longer be counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days.
