A PRISONER who attacked two guards and had a shiv has been given a hospital order.
Peter Kariuki, 27, assaulted the two officers at HMP Bullingdon in June last year. Two months earlier, in April, he’d been found in possession of a makeshift knife at the Bicester jail.
Judge Nigel Daly imposed a hospital order under section 37 of the Mental Health Act, placing him under the care of mental health doctors. Kariuki was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.
The judge said: “I am satisfied on the written evidence of these two doctors that you are suffering from a mental health disorder of a nature or degree which makes it appropriate for you to be detained in a hospital for medical treatment.”
Kariuki, of Eaglestone, Milton Keynes, pleaded guilty at the magistrates’ court to assaulting an emergency worker and unauthorised possession of a knife in prison.
