The very first Fairtrade product was a Mexican coffee in 1988, and since then the movement has grown rapidly to include a large range of products, including wine, the quality of which was recognised by the first ever Fairtrade wine competition in November 2007.

The Fairtrade wines case costs £72 and includes three bottles of each of the following four wines: Los Robles Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Chile: Crisp and zesty New World style of sauvignon with refreshing tangy flavours of gooseberry and blackcurrant is just great as an aperitif or with fish dishes.

Ormer Bay Chardonnay 2006, South Africa: This delicious non-oaked chardonnay is full of soft peaches and light buttery touches. Perfect with seafood pasta and salads.

Los Robles Carmenere 2006, Chile: Los Robles Co-operative has produced an excellent wine with warm plum and damson fruit flavours with a hint of chocolate richness on the finish - ideal with rich dishes.

Ormer Bay Merlot 2006, South Africa: The Ormer Bay Merlot from the Western Cape is packed with plums, brambles and smoky hedgerow fruit held together by an excellent crisp structure which makes the wine ideal for a variety of dishes, especially game, and mushroom risotto.
