ONE Covid-19 has been confirmed in Oxfordshire as hundreds of new cases were reported in just 24 hours.

The death, which happened in Vale of White Horse, took the total number of victims in the county to 727.

In addition, official figures show that as of 4pm on Tuesday, a further 212 new coronavirus cases were registered in the county.

These come to four more than those recorded on Monday.

The rate of infection in Oxfordshire now stands at 5,256 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 7,379.

The UK has recorded a further 23 Covid-related deaths and 20,479 new cases with 265 patients admitted to hospital, Public Health England confirmed.

Cases identified through a positive lateral flow test – those which can deliver results within half an hour – will no longer be counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days.
