An inquest will be held into the death of a woman who died during a pacemaker operation.

Janet Ward, 87, of Yarnton, near Kidlington, died on June 8 at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court heard on Tuesday that, during a post mortem, the cause of death was identified as cardiac tamponade due to the perforation of the right ventricle during the insertion of a permanent pacemaker.

Senior coroner Darren Salter said there was a need for an inquest as Mrs Ward had died during surgery.

A full inquest will be held on November 24.
