A retained firefighter died in a crash at Culham Park motocross track, an inquest heard.

Keen rider Stephen Angell, 61, was said to have been involved in the motocross accident at the Abingdon track on June 12.

The cause of death remains under investigation, senior coroner for Oxfordshire Darren Salter told the court on Tuesday afternoon as he opened Mr Angell’s inquest.

The court heard Mr Angell was an on-call firefighter who lived in Bathampton, near Bath.

A full inquest into the Somerset man’s death will be heard at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court on September 29.

Paying tribute to her brother last week, sister Lesley Angell told the BBC: "He was a quiet man with a wicked sense of humour and the rock in our family. He would do anything for anyone and would be astounded by the outpouring on social media and we will love and miss him forever."
