Heather Roper, a former teacher at Witney's Henry Box School, has died suddenly in her early 70s.

She was at the school for 18 years, from 1977 to 1995, as head of the home economics department, before taking early retirement.

Her funeral took place in her home village of Standlake on December 20, at St Giles' Church.

David Bell, deputy headteacher of Henry Box, said: "Heather really enjoyed teaching young people how to cook. I'm sure that many families in Witney use her recipes and useful cooking guides, and may well pass them on to their own children.

"Heather was a wonderful colleague to work with and kept in regular contact with her friends at the school.

"She will be sadly missed by all former students and staff, and by her daughters Helen and Sue and their families."
