AN Oxford MP has warned the Conservatives they are 'on notice' after losing a parliamentary by-election in a seat neighbouring Oxfordshire.

Layla Moran, MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, made the warning to her colleagues across the aisle after her Liberal Democrat party won the Chesham and Amersham by-election in Buckinghamshire.

When the votes in the poll were counted, the Liberal Democrat candidate Sarah Green had secured a victory over Conservative Peter Fleet in the Bucks constituency.

After the result, Ms Moran said: "The Blue Wall is beginning to crumble, and voters are making it clear that they won’t be taken for granted by the Conservatives any more.

“This result, and the recent local elections, show that the Liberal Democrats are the real opposition to the Conservatives across our region, and the Tories have been put on notice ahead of the next general election. The people of Chesham and Amersham voted for a greener, fairer and more caring future, and I’d like to congratulate Sarah Green on her election.”

Lib Dem leader Ed Davey visited the area on Friday morning after the votes were counted and knocked down a prop 'blue wall' with a Lib Dem-coloured orange hammer.

Oxfordshire County Council's recent local elections also saw the Lib Dems make large gains from the Conservatives, and go on to form a ruling coalition with Labour and the Greens.
