A KNIFEMAN was given three months to get himself clean of drugs.

Martyn Searson, 38, was up for his third offence of knife possession when he appeared before Oxford Crown Court on Thursday afternoon.

He’d earlier admitted having a cut throat razor in Cornmarket Street, Oxford, on April 1, 2021.

The London Place man had also pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of crack cocaine on the same date.

However, Judge Michael Gledhill QC adjourned the sentencing hearing until September after he heard that Searson had a place in a drug rehabilitation clinic in Wales. He is due to start at the residential rehab facility on Monday.

The judge told Sarah McIntyre, Searson’s barrister: “I am surprised and pleased that he’s got where he is. He’s certainly going to go to the rehabilitation establishment.

“I’m slightly worried about what is going to happen between now and Monday. What I have in mind to encourage him to engage with the rehabilitation is to adjourn sentence until the end of his time in the rehabilitation establishment.”

Searson will return to court on September 13 for sentence. From the dock, the defendant promised not to let anyone down: “I want this so much for myself and my kids.”
