A boxer knocked down another man with a single blow.

Terry Russell, 28, left his victim with bruising to his face and drifting in and out of consciousness at hospital after delivering the punch on October 25, 2019.

The Didcot man, who fought for South Moreton Boxing Club under the nickname ‘The Spartan’, was due to stand trial tat Oxford Crown Court this week on a charge of causing actual bodily harm.

However, on Monday afternoon, Russell, of South Moreton, near Didcot, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of common assault.

Prosecutor Robert Lindsey said the plea was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service. Judge Michael Gledhill QC recorded a formal not guilty verdict to the ABH charge.

Russell was bailed to return to the crown court on July 15 for sentence. Judge Gledhill said: “I make no promises as to what sentence will be imposed.”
