Road works on Botley Road have caused consistent traffic jams for weeks across Oxford.

Temporary traffic lights located near Osney Bridge have been causing tailbacks along the Botley Road, through city centre and St Giles.

Drivers say the delays are consistent throughout the day and are worse during rush hour.

Oxfordshire County Council said the lights are in place for repair works by Thames Water.

A spokesperson from Thames Water said: “We’re sorry for any delays our ongoing work on Osney Bridge has caused. We’re carrying out an emergency, temporary repair on a large water main, which runs under the bridge and was damaged when a boat accidentally hit it in May. We currently need to have one lane of the bridge and the cycle path closed so our engineers can work safely and to make space for a temporary pipe that will supply water to the city while we fix the broken one.

“We’ll have a clearer idea of when we can reopen the closed lane later this week.”
