FIREFIGHTERS from an Oxford firestation entered the water for a training session over the weekend.
Members of Oxfordshire Fire Services were carrying out a simulated water rescue in Castle Mill Stream by Oxford Castle.
The 'rescue' took place upstream against a torrent of white water from the weir, so that firefighters could learn how to best to save people falling into streams or rivers. Such incidents normally occur over the warmer months and are a particular concern to the service, which often appeals to the public to be careful when out in or beside rivers.

The firefighters said the Mill Stream Weir was an ideal training spot and that the simulation will be carried out there approximately four times a year.
Retired photographer John Welsby, who snapped the simulation, said: “One could see the exertion required to carry out a rescue in such circumstances and all the officers who participated were extremely fatigued."
