SPORTS centres in Cherwell have retained their safety award.
Bicester and Ploughley and Kidlington and Gosford sports centres, have kept their accreditation to the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management national pool safety award.
The centres, which are operated by Cherwell District Council, got the award - which is only awarded to 40 swimming pools across the country - in December last year. To maintain it, the centres have been subject to periodic mystery visits.
The latest visit highlighted improvements made since the initial award. The centres had to measure up to stringent guidelines on safety, life guarding, standards, the environment, pool supervision, pool activities, training, water management, heating, air circulation and use of chemicals.
