OXFORDSHIRE's Growth Board should be renamed to reflect that it is a 'partnership' and does important work for the county's future.

That was the call from Emily Smith, who stood down as the board's chair this week.

Ms Smith, the leader of Vale of White Horse District council, has been replaced by her counterpart in West Oxfordshire, Michele Mead, as the board's chief.

Standing down, Ms Smith said: "Using the word board implies decision-making, of which we do very little really."

Instead, she felt a new name reflecting the focus on planning for the future and the environment was needed.

The Growth Board sees council leaders and business leaders from across Oxfordshire meet to discuss how the £215m growth deal will be spent, and communicate on big joined up projects across the county.

It may debate a new name at its next meeting.
