Low Traffic Neighbourhoods could be introduced across Oxfordshire.

The county council's cabinet member for highways management councillor Tim Bearder said on BBC Radio Oxford this morning that the scheme may be extended to towns such as Banbury, Bicester, Witney and Henley.

He said it 'might be a long way off' but something that is needed due to traffic problems throughout the county.

He said: "Everyone's crying out for safer, less congested roads and so if we can get it right in Oxford where most people live and actually lots of people in Oxfordshire use Oxford if we can get it right there then there will be lessons that we can learn from.

"We'd probably start in big urban areas like Banbury, Witney, Bicester potentially and Henley but that might be a long way off and we've got to learn the lessons from where we're going in Oxford."

He added: "It's pretty clear the whole of Oxfordshire is creaking under the strain of too much traffic and where do we go with this? We can't just carry on down the road - no pun intended - we have to look at viable alternatives and we have to take the climate change emergency seriously."
