OXFORDSHIRE'S daily confirmed cases of Covid-19 have reached their highest level since mid-February, the latest Government figures show, as more than half of all adults in the country are now fully vaccinated.

Official figures show that as of 4pm on Friday, a total of 86 new coronavirus cases were registered in the county.

These come to 49 more than those recorded on Thursday.

These are the daily cases separated by local authorities:

Oxford – 22

South Oxfordshire – 18

Cherwell – 11

West Oxfordshire – 17

Vale of White Horse – 18

The total number of coronavirus deaths since the pandemic started are:

Oxford – 9,699

Oxfordshire – 34,421

UK – 127,823

The UK has recorded a further 11 Covid-related deaths and 6,238 new cases with 123 patients admitted to hospital, Public Health England confirmed.

The health body recently changed the way it records the figures.

Cases identified through a positive lateral flow test – those which can deliver results within half an hour – will no longer be counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days.

The latest data shows that the NHS reached an important milestone as more than 75 per cent of the population has received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, while 50.9 per cent of adults have received their second jab.
