A FAMILY is trying to raise money to help with treatment after a mother was diagnosed with stage four cancer.

Tracey Day, age 52, was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour, called a glioblastoma multiforme, last year.

The Abingdon Road resident underwent a craniotomy in June 2020, before being told that December that the tumour had grown back.

The mum of four daughters, who has 12 grandchildren, underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Ms Day is now experiencing worsening symptoms meaning she struggles with her ability to speak, as well as reading and writing.

The family is now trying to do everything they can to help their mother.

The daughters launched a Go Fund Me Page, to raise funds for their mum to receive a different form of chemotherapy, called Avastin, which is no longer offered via NHS treatment.

By raising money for their mum to undergo Avastin treatment privately they hope to prolong her life, giving her more time to spend with her children and grandchildren.

One of her daughters, Emily Day, said: “Our mum is loved dearly by anyone that is lucky enough to know her- she is kind, courageous and always has a smile on her face every single day, showing us how to be just as brave as she is.”

In just under a week the family managed to raise over £10,000.

The family hopes to raise another £15,000 so their mum can receive the full cost of treatment which totals to £25,000.

In February, Ms Day was given eight to twelve months to live.

The fundraiser hopes to give Ms Day a better quality of life but also raise awareness for the aggressive form of brain cancer.
