AN ITEM gifted to the King of Rock and Roll has been sold in an Oxfordshire town.
A combination cigarette and lighter case that was given to Elvis Presley by the King of Thailand was sold at an auction in Abingdon on Friday.
The sale of the item, at Mallams' 24 May Abingdon Home Sale, attracted a crowd of bidders.
The case was eventually sold to a phone bidder for £3,600 - six times its estimated worth.
The Lot 40 case was given to Elvis during a visit to King Bhumibol's 1960 visit to Hollywood's Paramount Studios, where the King of Rock and Roll was filming the musical comedy G I Blues.
The cigarette case was inscribed on the inside and outside, dated, and stamped with Thail silver markings.
The case was given to the vendor's aunt, Ursula Nixon, when she was working in America in the 1960s as an English teacher, who knew Elvis.
