BUS passengers in Oxford will be able to track a bus to see how far it is from their stop with a new app.

The new Oxford Bus Company app allows people waiting for buses which have not yet shown up to open a real-time map and find out where their ride currently is, in a service similar to ones operated by Uber, some taxi companies, and delivery firms.

The new app also works for OBC's sister company Thames Travel, and also for other companies which provide bus services in Oxford, including Stagecoach, Arriva and Red Rose.

The app also allows travellers to see how many spaces are on board a bus, includes a travel planner for multi-stage journeys, and has live travel updates.

Like with the previous app, passengers can scan their phones when boarding a bus to pay for journeys.

Customers who have paid credit into an account on the old app can have it ported across after following instructions on how to do so.

Phil Southall, Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel Managing Director, said: “Technology is constantly evolving, and we have invested in upgrading our app to take it to the next level.

"Many of the new features were included following customer feedback and our core focus of the new app was to make it user friendly and informative."

The app is available in for free from the App Store and Google Play.

EDIT 26/05/21: An older version of this article said credit transfers automatically from the old app to the new one, however, Oxford Bus Company has since said this is not the case, and 'a few simple steps' are required to transfer
