Tree falls onto car in Abingdon after weather warnings issued across Oxfordshire

At approximately 8.45am this morning, firefighters from the Red Watch in Abingdon were called out to Oxford Road in Frilford to help the individuals who were inside the car.

The car was in motion on the road at the time the tree fell.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the accident.

Writing on Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service's Facebook page, a spokesperson said: "Luckily, the occupants were able to get out of the vehicle, but a split second later, things could have been very different.

"We made the area safe and reassured the occupants of the vehicle, whilst the Rescue Tender from Kidlington used their specialist chainsaw skills to clear the fallen tree off the car, and to enable the road to be reopened again."

The accident comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the county after strong winds and some flooding is predicted.

The windy weather is expected to lead to some travel disruption and perhaps some damage to temporary outdoor structures.

The Met also says to expect: 

• Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
• Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer 
• Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
• Some damage to outdoor temporary structures possible, with some tree branches down too.
