Residents of Wantage were baffled after a flurry of letters and parcels from 2008 were at last delivered to their homes.

It transpired the post was discovered at the home of a former employee.

Among the deliveries were birthday cards with cash inside and even a handmade card from the now-deceased mother of the recipient.

The story prompted Oxford Mail readers to come forward with their own Royal Mail horror stories.

Oxford-based Abu Hussain said: "I received a letter yesterday which was dated July 2020."

And Eve Ousley wrote: "I've received letters dated months ago, yet I posted a letter second class and the person received it the next day. One extreme to the other."

Sarah McMahon from Didcot said she was so fed up with the local postal service that she instead had her mail sent to her mother's house.

Viki Brooks added: "Got my daughter's GCSE certificates from 2018."

It isn't the first time the Wantage postal system has hit headlines.

MP for Wantage David Johnston raised the issue of postal delays in the area in Parliament in April after continuous complains from his constituents.
