TRAFFIC queued for seven miles on the A34 this morning after a lorry crossed the central reservation.

The A34 northbound near Abingdon was blocked with severe delays, due to the accident near the A4183 Oxford Road at 8am.

Congestion was to both the Botley interchange southbound and Milton interchange northbound as well as routes through Marcham, Abingdon and Shippon as traffic diverts.

Traffic on both sides is now moving after the lorry crossed the central reservation, with oil spillage adding to delays.

Crews from Abingdon and Didcot fire stations attended the scene, along with a specialist rescue team from Kidlington Fire Station.

The Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that crews were on the scene in minutes, supporting colleagues from Thames Valley Police to make the vehicle safe and assist the casualty, who was then taken to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service.

Thames Valley Police is investigating the cause of the incident.

No one was seriously injured.

The emergency services thanked motorists for their patience whilst caught up in the delays.
