NEW analysis by Public Health England shows for the first time that people who receive a single dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine have approximately an 80 per cent lower risk of death with Covid-19.

This comes as zero deaths were recorded in Oxfordshire, making it nearly six weeks without local victims.

According to the Government’s website, as of 5.44pm on Tuesday, there were 20 new cases recorded in the county – nearly double from those recorded on Monday.

The last death recorded in the county happened on March 30.

Total deaths since the start of the pandemic stand at 127,629.

The health body recently changed the way it records the figures.

Cases identified through a positive lateral flow test – those which can deliver results within half an hour – will no longer be counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days.

Currently, 67.6 per cent of adults have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and nearly 34.3 per cent have received their second.
