The Oxford Bus Museum in Long Hanborough will reopen on Wednesday May 19 with a programme of summer events to welcome back visitors - including those who are not interested in buses.

There are two classic car events.

It’s hoped members will join in with a Members’ Classic Car Day and bring in their own vehicles and in September there will be a day devoted to Morris Motors and other classic cars, which will be advertised to local classic car clubs.

The museum’s Historic Cycle Collection of 40 vintage bicycles will be showcased in August along with a demonstration in the yard of some novelty cycles, not usually seen by the public.

The same month there is a military event when it is hoped there will be visiting military vehicles and displays.

A new venture is a Country Bus Event, offering visitors rides on buses which used to run on rural routes.

And there will be free heritage bus rides on the first and third Sundays in June, July, August and September and on Bank Holiday Mondays.

The Oxford Bus Museum is a charity run entirely by volunteers.

It tells the story of bus and coach travel around Oxfordshire over the last 130 years.

Its exhibits include horse-drawn vehicles and artefacts such as bus stops, ticket machines, timetables, posters, staff uniforms as well as a host of photographs illustrating the area's transport history.

Since 2004 the museum has also been home to the Morris Motors Museum, charting how these cars and commercial vehicles were produced at Cowley.

The vintage collection includes some produced during William Morris's life.

Trustee Chris Butterfield said: “Our team has been working hard to get the museum buildings and exhibits ready for visitors and tidying up the yard.

"We have planned new events aimed at attracting new visitors, who are not interested in buses.”
