Drinkers are looking forward to pubs in Oxford being allowed to reopen inside from Monday.

Pubs reopened on April 12 but only outdoors, but from Monday, May 17, according pubs and restaurants will at last be allowed to welcome back customers indoors.

Ahead of the big day, here are the 10 top-rated Oxford bars and pubs on TripAdvisor that are well worth a visit.

Following a visit to The James Street Tavern, one reviewer in March wrote: Can’t wait for this great pub to re open , Friday and Saturday nights are brilliant as the atmosphere is great , no hassle and great service

"Live music is perfect and the garden is beautiful. As it’s just off the Cowley road you may think it’ll be rowdy and full of kids but I can assure you the Doorstaff (who by the way look like they’re straight out of Peaky Blinders ) look after the pub and customers very well.

"Well worth a visit for sure."

And a visitor to The Grapes in George Street wrote: "We visited on a busy Saturday afternoon without a booking and were very lucky to get a table. Fantastic beer and fantastic service.

"We shared a cheese board which was also very good value. Would recommend booking as this place is quite small and very popular - multiple people were turned away at the door. Will be back!"

Dave Richardson, a spokesman for the Oxford branch of real ale group CAMRA, said earlier some pubs have been busy since reopening on April 12.

He added: "Pubs are showing a real determination to get back to business and reconnect with their customers, and they deserve all our support if they are to survive.

"We look forward to George Street being closed to traffic as it was last summer, which will allow more pubs and other hospitality businesses to open.

"It is noticeable that many of the pubs that are open are independent businesses, but well done to Fuller's for opening The Bear Inn and Head of the River, and to Nicholson's (part of M&B) for re-opening The Chequers and The Crown."
